I have been fascinated by the Christian community lately defending their “drinking rights” and imposing them on the rest of society by posting articles like “The Pilgrims love their Beer”, Relevant magazine’s article defending Christians drinking wine and such, Martin Luther’s teachings on how drinking shows satan who is boss, right down to the local charismatic/Pentecostal church’s practice of “getting drunk in the spirit.”

Call me crazy here Truthinator, but the last time I checked the newspaper, there was another death due to “drinking,” that could have been avoided. They call it a “casualty” while we call it heartbreaking and the community mourns for a few days, while the family mourns for a lifetime.

And if I chose to go back to my drinking/drunken ways before I received the free gift of salvation, I would call up the churched and they would be happy to have me back in the saddle getting drunk on the wine of the vine as well as flopping down on the floor engaging in a drunken esoteric experience. WOW, just WOW. WOW, WOW, and more WOWS.

Guess, the caution of “Being sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour, 2 Peter 5:8, is not true in our modern, highly enlightened society.

So church, give me one glass of wine and my mind is already feeling the effects of light headedness and the beginnings of “being tipsy!” But then, I have to get into my car and drive home, with my children in it; pretty frightening.

So now, those who consciously choose not to drink are labeled BY CHURCH PEOPLE in our culture, as Pharisees, legalists, purists, socially awkward, wine and beer virgins, and a whole slough load full of other names too coarse to mention. So now, we have Sunday school teachers explaining to our youth that Jesus drank wine, and the Apostle Paul encouraged Timothy to drink wine, so you can too! So now, we have the pastor is desiring for a “move” of the holy spirit (will not blaspheme Him here) by having the pew sitters stand up and receive some kind of “impartation” so they can have a drunken, uncontrollable experience flopping around on the floor laughing until the cows come home. WOW.

And the churched call us who choose not to drink alcohol any longer…..crazy. Guess who is judging whom these days? WOW again.

God’s caution of “being sober” is old fashioned in the church and as I have been told “you are taking that Scripture out of context…guess the word sober doesn’t mean what I thought it did. Ending with “wow.”

Thanks as always, Ann. The neo-Pharasaism of the evangelical left discourages for NOT being like the world… Sad. Very well put.

Ugh. Obviously the interviewer has forgotten that God isn’t into microwaving but marinating. *face palm* Oy!
