This is the look I have when the pastor and leadership in the church read out of “the message bible.”
And then chastise you when you do not accept that mystic mess!

True. The Message is fiction. Avoid that one totally. Stick with real translations just don’t hold any translation to a higher level than the original documents in which the word of God was given. Thanks.

I actually heard once: “we’ll use the King James that the Apostle Paul used!”
Btw, I find the message refreshing on some passages. As long as you’re aware that it is a VERY broad paraphrase, it’s readable, but should never be your one version!

The Message is Eugene Peterson’s impression of what the bible is saying. You are wise to use caution with it since it could even be worse than a broad paraphrase since Peterson comes down on the liberal side of theological debate at best. That is not to say he is wrong about everything but it would be dangerous to trust his opinion on the Bible. The thing you quoted about the “KJV that the Apostle Paul used” is hilarious. Thanks.
