Campus Crusade for Christ Kicks Jesus to the Curb (Op-Ed)

22 Jul

Campus Crusade for Christ kicks Jesus to the curb in order to broaden their appeal… Go figure. So, are they community organizers now or what?

CCC changes their name to Cru. The reason given is that the name Campus Crusade for Christ offends some. Wow, I wonder if being ashamed of Jesus’ name offends Him. Oh wait, it does! Jesus said if anyone is ashamed of Him before men He will be ashamed of them before the Father (Luke 9:26, Mark 8:38).

Exactly how does a group reach out to others for Jesus while being ashamed to admit they work for Him? Inquiring minds want to know.

Check out the full story by following this link .

This kind of stuff riles the Truthinator (as if you didn’t already know). How can someone represent Christ and apologize for His name at the same time? I suppose CCC is in stealth mode now. Isn’t this what the Emergents began their heretical movement by doing? Weren’t they the ones who immediately changed the names of the churches, dismissed all of the staff, and ran off the elderly members so they could apostasize churches all over the world? I believe this is exactly how it started.

I’m not suggesting that CCC or Cru or Happy Times Community Organizers or whatever they are called has become Emergent but it does make me wonder if they are on the slippery slope.

The new downgrade takes another victim? Hopefully not. But hey, the Bible offends people too. Will they stop telling people the truth in order to “help” them in greater numbers? Think about it.

Does anyone else hear that knocking sound? Is it Jesus trying to get back into the inside of Christian organizations?

If they truly wanted to remove Crusade from their name, why not just call themselves Christ Cru?

Good spot! Welcome, John. You raise a great question. The writer of the piece sort of hits this noting that the name of Christ is gone depsite the claim that “Campus Crusade” were the troubling words… Go figure.

Look, if a Christian organization were starting out fresh and took the name Cru, I would say that they probably made a mistake because no one would know what they were and their impact would be lessened. But for an organization such as CCC to change their name and leave out the name of Christ, there is no such excuse. They are distancing themselves. The long-term effect will be a softening of their stance on truth! There is no other outcome. Policy changes carry strong future implications. They just communicated to thousands of people that they fear the name of Jesus to be a liability. Actions matter.

Thanks for stopping by, John. Come again.

your comments on branding show ignorance. what is the meaning of Google, Starbucks, or Pepsi? all of these brand have no meaning other than the reputation the company has built around them. CCC changed their name so the name would not shut down conversations about Jesus. This is wise, not foolish. The name of the organization is not important. The name of Jesus going out is. when is the last time you cared enough about a lost person to enter their world and sensitively communicate the gospel in language they would connect with, calling them to change? does that sound too soft for you? consider John 4.

I think “Crusade” is more offensive than Christ…and they remove Christ! Weird. Then their new name is “Cru” and people are now going to be “wha? What’s that?” AND then people will have to say “Cru stands for Crusade”…which is asking people to focus even more on their offensive name, but now there is no Christ to explain anything in their name…whoever is the guy that had this idea ought to be fired.

      Welcome SlimJim,

You are el correcto. This is beyond strange. Even if a name change had been needed, taking out Christ and landing on Cru is beyond senseless.

I’ve seen this headline here and there but first time that I really payed much attention. Like others, just thought that they took out Crusade…but then that wouldn’t make much sense for this organization, would it ?…since they are the one of the earliest hard line dominionist movements around. (Ooooo, but don’t tell anybody)Thanks for clearing this all up, Truthy.
