Hi Carolyn. Yes, I am distressed about what McDonald is doing. Whether he realises it or not, he is giving his “acceptance” to these people by associating with them. Also, he has assumed authority upon himself like John Piper to pronounce whether these people are “doctrinal & sound”, I’m not sure that is the right way to go. Having a conference with people who are questionable at best and then saying, “well, we will agree to disagree” seems to imply that the differences between the prosperity charlatans, the pentacostals, the Emergents, and others are minor. This is the wrong message to be sending out, IMHO.

Excepting your inclusion of pentecostals, many of whom I believe are truly saved, albeit with some aberrant doctrines, I agree with you, Tru, regarding the negative implications of the “agree to disagree” stance with prosperity charlatans, emergents, oneness pentecostals/modalists, etc. It is very sad, indeed. I was glad to see MacArthur et al addressing this issue on GTY blog.
