Young Pastors Know More Than Grumpy Old Men (Humor)

Man on telephone: Pastor, I know I am an old & grumpy man who has been in the ministry for 45 years and I know that you being 35 years old and in the ministry for 3 years obviously know much more than I, but do you really think it is wise to plant tares in this field along side the wheat?
Moral: Young people know so little but are convinced they know it all! Hurry, cure all of the world’s ills, young people, while you still know everything because in a few years you will mature enough to realize you never really knew anywhere near as much as you thought…

You crack me up. We grumpy old men are sometimes that way because we were know-it-all young men who screwed up our lives beyond repair. Right? And now, the young people raised in our “entitled” society and our “entitled” churches stand and tell us all about how life is. And in the process, we see the headlight of the train coming at us that’s going to smash to bits all their brilliant “repositioning” of the gospel for Christ. When the crises come, and they are here, and the props are all knocked out from under these “pseudo-disciples” of all ages, I pray that they would finally go humbly to their knees and ask our Lord what true discipleship on the narrow road with Him is really all about. And that they would find, as I have in my grumpy old age, that the love of Christ, and His Kingdom, and His glory, is all that matters, and that the “I”, the ego, the personal fulfillment, is only meaningful when it’s lost in Him. Love your humor.
